new outlook

This week I attended a seminar at ASU with guest speaker Daisy Khan. She was an up and coming fashion designer in NYC and left it all in the wake of 9-11 to become a speaker on the inter-faith community and the role of Muslim women. Her speech was truly inspirational about the obstacles in everyday life that can be overcome with persistence. It is from this speech that a re-found awareness is made regarding the respect that must be shown to each person for who they are. It also gave me a much needed kick to get my life in gear. A new motto from an old song, courtesy of Rascal Flats:

I spent the morning at an old friend's grave
Flowers and Amazing Grace, he was a good man
He spent his whole life spinnin' his wheels
Never knowin' how the real thing feels
He never took a chance or took the time to dance
And I stood there thinking as I said goodbye
Today is the first day of the rest of my life

I'm gonna stop lookin' back and start movin' on
And learn how to face my fears
Love with all of my heart, make my mark
I wanna leave something here
Go out on a ledge, with out any net
That's what I'm gonna be about
Yeah I wanna be runnin'
When the sand runs out

I think this song really exemplifies what I am striving to achieve: take chances, love completely without fear, and live life fully.
